mary mary, quite contrary | project 52 | orange county photographer

This week’s theme for project 52 is texture. I had a bunch of different ideas of what I could photograph for this assignment
but when I saw this “flower” growing in my garden, I knew it would be it.  Can you guess what it is?

guess what is growing?

Maybe a color version would help?  Or maybe not.

growing a pineapple

It’s the beginnings of a pineapple!!!  And it’s growing in my OC backyard!
The little brown, spikey flower that you see now will later grow up to be the “body”/outer casing,
protecting the yummy, juicy pineapple goodness inside!

In May of 2006 (just after my daughter was born), my mom suggested that we plant the tops of two pineapples she had just cut  into a patch of empty dirt in our backyard.  She told us it would grow a plant and we didn’t believe her.  Ok, maybe it would grow some more leaves, but we never thought it would actually produce a real life, edible pineapple.  But it did!!  Last summer, we ate our very first Ladera Ranch grown (and organic!) pineapple.  I thought that we got lucky with our one pineapple.  Of the three total pineapple tops we have planted, it was the only one that looked like it could have grown something.  Then last Friday, I noticed this little bud growing on the 2nd pineapple top that we planted almost four years ago.   It’s exciting… and it makes you feel like an real gardener!

Want to try to grow your own pineapple at home?  All you need is a pineapple top, some dirt, and a lot of patience!
I’ll post again once this litte flower begins to resemble more of a pineapple (it hasn’t even sprouted it’s own top yet).

Next post: A sneak peek of my latest session with a super fun (and adorable) toddler friend!:)

super cute, super baby! | huntington beach baby photographer

Don’t let this cute little guy fool you.  Collared onesie shirt, necktie, pocket protector, glasses…
you’d guess that he’s all business, right?  He spends his day hanging out with his mommy and daddy being as cute as can be, but when no one is looking…

He becomes SUPER CUTE – the super baby!
(Don’t you just love his onesie and cape?  Every baby boy needs one of these in their closet!)

This gorgoeus family belongs to my friend (and sorority sister) from college (go UC Irvine – ZOT!!).  It’s been a few year since we had last seen eachother, but through the wonders of modern technology (Facebook), we were able to connect again and I’m so glad.  I had lots of fun (and laughs) hanging out with her and her husband in Huntington Beach and photographing their baby boy.  He is so cute!  Love his pretty brown eyes and those chubby cheeks (the chubbs always do me in)!

We decide to end the shoot with a few sleeping shots, but as soon as that little finger came out of his mouth,
he was wide awake and ready to keep going!

The last image to wrap up this sneak peek!
Boy, can this little guy laugh.  And I mean, seriously crack up!
You can’t help but smile (and laugh with him too!) when you see that cute face and hear his adorable baby giggles!

chocolate covered bacon | project 52 | oc photographer

Don’t judge.  Chocolate covered bacon is really good!!!

I’ve actually been wanting to try chocolate covered bacon since I heard about it when the OC Fair came to town last summer, but I didn’t get the chance to.  Well, I was happily surprised when it came as a side to the bread pudding dessert I ordered when we had brunch at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel the other weekend.  Yum!  I am a huge fan of chocolate covered pretzels because I love the mix of salty and sweet and cholcolate covered bacon has a similar thing going on.  Plus, if they serve it at the Ritz, it’s got to be good right?

Cayla loves chocolate and she loves bacon.  I gave her a bite and before I knew it, she had finished the whole thing!
It’s a good thing they gave me three pieces!

chocolate covered bacon is delicious!

Hey Mikey, she likes LOVES it!

More project 52 images are coming soon.  I know I’ve fallen and bit behind (and thank you to those of you who contacted me asking
if I was still continuing with the project… I am!).   I hope to get caught up in a monster post very soon!  Thanks for stopping by!
